About Cody

Cody was born in Elkins on February 12, 1987 to Lanny & Kim Thompson and grew up on the Sully Road near Alpena. He graduated from Harman High School in 2005. He also graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education in 2011 and a Masters Degree in Multi-Categorical Special Education from West Virginia University in 2018. His parents own Shiffletts's Store (a small business) in Bemis, WV. His paternal grandparents and family own and run a farm in Sully, WV.
He taught school with Randolph County Schools from 2012 until 2022. He taught for two years at Harman School, and the rest of his time was at Elkins High School where I taught US Civics and Contemporary Studies. He is very passionate about public education and have been a major supporter both in the Capitol and locally. Currently he works for Diversified Assessment and Therapy Services as the Executive Director for two offices that facilitate IDD Waiver services.
He enjoys spending time with family and his pets as much as possible. He absolutely loves being outside hiking, camping, snowboarding, and kayaking and taking in the beauty of the Mountain State. He takes a special interest in learning and reading about local and state history (something he inherited from his Grandpa Shifflett.) Cody has been truly honored and humbled to represent the folks of Randolph and Pocahontas Counties in Charleston, and looks forward to representing the 67th District which includes portions of Randolph and Pendleton.
Hi Everyone! I'm excited to meet and connect with each of you! I'm ready to be your representative in Charleston. I have the experience in the Capitol, I have many friends on both sides of the aisle and during my time in the legislature I worked with both parties for good legislation. I look beyond party and I am proud of the accomplishments and bills I co-sponsored with my friends across the aisle to bring tax relief to working families, our seniors, and our students. I always maintained an open door policy and will listen to all my constituents. I believe it's my job to work for YOU! Please feel free to always reach out to me with any concerns you may have.
