My Letter to Randolph & Pendleton Residents
Dear Neighbor,
My name is Cody Thompson, and I’m running for re-election as your Delegate to continue delivering real results for our community. I’ve had the privilege of serving as both a Delegate and as a City Councillor of Elkins, and in both roles, I’ve fought tirelessly to strengthen our economy, improve access to healthcare, and ensure our schools are properly funded. Now, I’m asking for your support to continue that work.
While I’m visiting neighborhoods and speaking to many of you in person, I want to take this opportunity to explain the critical choices we face this election. Elias Coop Gonzalez, my opponent, has consistently voted in ways that fail our community by defunding schools, driving up healthcare costs, and opposing economic development projects. Here’s why this race matters, and why your vote for me means real results for our district.
My Record of Delivering Results for our Community
In my time as Delegate and Elkins City Councillor, I’ve fought for policies that make a tangible difference in people’s lives:
-
Supporting Education: I worked to pass legislation that secured increased funding for public schools, ensuring our teachers and students have the resources they need to succeed. I’ve championed measures to improve teacher pay and fought to direct more resources to rural school districts, including here in our community. As a teacher myself, I know how crucial these investments are for our children’s future.
-
Lowering Healthcare Costs: Healthcare is a fundamental issue for many West Virginians, and I’ve taken action to lower costs. I supported bills that capped insulin prices, expanded Medicaid access, and fought to lower prescription drug costs. My votes reflect my commitment to making healthcare more affordable and accessible for everyone in our district.
-
Economic Revitalization: I’ve pushed for investments in job training programs and redevelopment initiatives that bring good-paying jobs back to our area. As a City Councillor in Elkins, I helped secure funding for infrastructure projects that improved local roads, parks, and services, attracting new businesses to the area. As your Delegate, I’ve continued to work on economic policies that support small businesses, create jobs, and strengthen our local economy.
Elias Coop Gonzalez Has Failed our Community
Unfortunately, my opponent, Elias Coop Gonzalez, has a voting record that tells a different story. He has consistently taken positions that harm working families and our local economy:
-
Defunding Our Schools: Elias voted against several key measures that would have increased funding for our schools. In fact, he supported budget cuts that directed much-needed money away from education, making it harder for our teachers and students to succeed. While I’ve fought to protect and expand funding for public education, Elias’s actions have undermined our schools and put our children’s future at risk.
-
Raising Healthcare Costs: Elias has repeatedly voted against measures that would have made healthcare more affordable for West Virginians. He opposed legislation that would cap prescription drug prices and voted against expanding access to affordable healthcare through Medicaid. His votes have made it harder for families to access the care they need, while I’ve fought to lower costs and improve healthcare for all.
-
Opposing Economic Development: While I’ve worked to bring jobs and investments into our community, Elias has consistently voted against redevelopment appropriations that would help revitalize our economy. He has turned his back on opportunities to improve infrastructure and create jobs in our district, choosing instead to side with out-of-state interests that don’t serve the needs of West Virginians.
A Clear Choice for Our Future
This election is about choosing a leader who delivers results. As your Delegate and as a City Councillor, I’ve proven that I can get things done. I’ve worked hard to improve our schools, lower healthcare costs, and bring good-paying jobs to our community. In contrast, Elias Coop Gonzalez has consistently voted against the interests of working families, supporting policies that raise costs, defund our schools, and block economic development.
We need leadership that is focused on building a stronger future for West Virginia. I’ve done the work, and I’m ready to continue fighting for you. If you believe in a future where our schools are fully funded, healthcare is affordable, and our local economy is thriving, then I respectfully ask for your vote in this election.
Together, we can ensure that our community continues to grow and prosper.
Sincerely,
Cody Thompson
Candidate for District 67 Delegate, West Virginia
